Hi there & welcome to my travel blog. My name is Kristen and I am a 30 year old plant-based Pastry Chef hailing from the great state of Texas. I grew up in Houston, and have lived in Austin since 2008. I have a cat named Milo (aka Stinky), and I am the owner of a Vegan Bakery in Austin called Capital City Bakery.
Before my culinary career even began, I went vegan in 2004 because I love and respect all life, including animals. My business and personal life adhere to vegan principles, which is why you’ll find several posts about vegan food and where to find it around the globe.
Veganism is both the practice of abstaining from the use of animal products, particularly in diet, and an associated philosophy that rejects the commodity status of animals. A follower of either the diet or the philosophy is known as a vegan (pronounced vee-gən).
I started this travel blog as a way to keep track of my adventures near and far. Exploring nature and experiencing other cultures is something I consider a privilege, and I am fortunate enough to be able to do so at this point in my life. My favorite place to be is at the beach, preferably somewhere in the Caribbean with plenty of fresh coconuts in tow. Often when I am traveling, I seem to earn the nickname “Texas” by those I meet; Naturally, here we are… welcome to the adventures of Texas Abroad, y’all. ♥
